J & R Farm was established in 2010 under the name of J & R Lamanchas, which thanks to Beverly Goldthwate and the addition of two pretty little Nubian doe kids, was later changed to J & R farm. Along with the herd name change came a change in location. In 2012 the herd moved to beautiful new facility, just a few miles from where the herd had its beginnings in Boone, CO, about 20 miles east of Pueblo. This had formerly been a lovely horse breeding facility, with a beautiful farm and several other outbuildings and pens. It was a perfect set up for the goats with only the addition of a bit of fencing.
Lamanchas have always been the primary focused, with Nubians following close behind, however over the years there has been the occasional Alpine, Recorded Grade, Toggenburgs, and even Boer goat.
Although the herd has gone through many changes in the past few years and because of school we have not been able to attend as many shows as we would have liked to the goal still remains the same. We are striving to produce elegant productive animals that preform both in the show ring and in the milk parlor. It is that search for consistency and reliability that lead us to introduce embryo flushes as a reproductive tool.
2017 saw SGCH J & R Lamanchas Tamara and GCH Kastdemur's Silvertip flush to Kastdemur's Ethos (Son of the 2012 National Champion). Those flushes produced many outstanding offspring most of which were retained. we look forward to seeing those doe kids mature and to continue using embryo flushes as a reproductive tool to aid us in developing uniformity throughout the herd.
